Was up there this morning – went up from Bonaly Scout Centre.

Someone has driven a vehicle (suspect 4×4) through the bottom two gates, damaging them beyond repair – left open and broken. Appear to have driven up to Bonaly Reservoir then have driven through the fence at the 3rd gate and gone up to do some off-roading on the grass banks of the reservoir.

Also appeared to be tyre marks heading West from there towards lower Harbour Hill descent. Also 4×4 tracks up Maidens and gate at the top was open.

Utter b******s.

Contacted the farmer to warm him about possible escaped livestock. Also phoned the Pentland Hills Ranger Service who confirmed that they were aware of this and had colleagues en-route to assess the damage.

Properly disappointed and totally ruined the morning ride 🙁

Not really sure how to proceed here – cameras to catch these guys? I remember seeing a damaged gate a few weeks ago too.

That’s crazy- last time it happened the suggestion was it was someone that had gone up on the hill then had the gates locked behind them which is still ridiculous but this is just another level…

Yeah, I remember seeing the post last time – benefit of the doubt and all that, but this is just bonkers.

So they went up past the scout centre and up puke hill?

Scout centre has CCTV perhaps? Don’t know if it covers the road?

Otherwise some trail cams will do the job.

The gate at the top of the Waterfall loop, below the shoulder onto Black Hill was flattened a few months back. Not good though from the sounds of it.
