    My pc does this every time I start it up . Only started doing it today , any ideas how to stop it ? Windows XP .

    Looks like you are in the market for a new hard drive.

    If you don’t already have a backup of the things that you don’t want to lose, then now would be slightly past the time you would want to start.

    linky makes it sounds complicated !

    Knee is sore after todays ride but this pc is about to get a bit more than just sore ! Grrrrr

    theres a lot of gumpf on the linky, but basically, you need to tell the hamster that starts up your machine not to bother doing a chkdsk on startup.

    this is done with a simple dos command. simply do a start button/run and type in ‘cmd’ (without ”s) and then the old black dos prompt window appears.

    enter the lines of code as per the linky (spaces and syntax are important) and press enter as reqd.

    this sends a message to the hamster to stop messing around with your machine.

    edit: 9/10 a new hard drive is not reqd.

    I had a computer that done this for about 3 years….

    It’s still alive. Just retired..

    thats sounds easier . I’ll back up my pictures first and give it a go.
