Kids have save up and need a desktop/all in one PC that’ll do homework (MS Office), googling, very light gaming/films etc) so nothing heavy duty at all. Budget prob £600 ish, but less is good.

An all in one appeals for neatness and not interested in trying to build a package. I’m not familiar with W8 and have heard some negatives, esp if not with a touch screen but W7 choice seems very limited.

At work we got a couple of Dell Outlet All in ones with W7 for about £500 that seem excellent, I5, fast and great screen. But nothing showing and guess these were old stock.

So any advice, esp around the processor, touch screen, W8 Vs W7, and ideally a complete bundle would be great.

    Here are 2 they suggested:

Seems a price hike for the processor esp as they’ll be light users I’d imagine … or do we get 2 yrs down the line and wish we had more ‘power’?!

    Many thanks

I’d personally avoid an all in one unless it is absolutely necessary.

While they look pretty they are often a pain to work on and revolve around the display so if that fails you throw away the whole lot or pay a lot of money for its replacement.

There are some business systems where a small form factor PC mounts to the back of a standard monitor using the VESA mounts, if space is an issue grabbing a refurbed one of those might be a better bet for future flexibility.

The Dell Ultrasharp U2412M 24″ IPS Widescreen LED Monitor is superb if you can stretch to it.
From here for £215 with a pixel guarantee: http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/dell-ultrasharp-u2412m-widescreen-monitor-black-ffxd-p-1639.html

(sightly cheaper in silver, but I wouldn’t).

I bought an i5 Dell Vostro 270MT for £285 a few months ago, but I think it was a deal.
I then added an SSD and it’s been superb. You’d have to add a dedicated graphics card for gaming, but £40 would sort that out.

In total I guess that pushes your budget to the max though.

The Asus range of desktops were also popular at the time I was looking.
There was an i5 for about £329 that people were raving about.

(these were deals found on http://www.hotukdeals.com/ so worth keeping an eye on)

It’s a little dearer now, but still looks ok:

I was skeptical of W8, but I’m now absolutely fine with it. Really like some aspects of it.
Once you kill the login screen and ignore the metro bit, it’s all fine.
