so a few companies about making cheaper versions of stuff, how does that sit with patents?
narrow wide chain rings not such an issue as the patent seems very fuzzy

but what about other stuff eg
    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/rear-maxel-thread-alternatives#post-6372670
replacement maxles seem very hard to find is that coz sram would slap them down, if so are reverse components for example paying royalties?

Patents aren’t always easy to get, and aren’t cheap. Depending on what it is, it may be cheaper not to bother with a patent, and just get out there first. Even more expensive if you need to patent in the US, Europe and Japan, and the patent itself gets more expensive the longer you have it, so only worth keeping it going if it’s paying for itself.
Is there a patent for the narrow/wide chain rings?

US patents are often set up (really easily, it seems – even if there is documented precedent/prior art or whatever) but “imitators” can sell freely elsewhere, I think

I’m just hoping the 77 designz chain guide ends up being made by Superstar or another cheapo company. £35…and that doesn’t even include postage!
