It was only an hour for that christening, what about the christenings, funerals, weddings, services where people park like that over the rest of the year?
bassspineFree MemberI once had a torn-off piece of cheque book with “YES DARWINS THEORY OF EVOLUTION!!!” with ‘theory’ underlined three times, stuck under my windscreen wiper 🙂 probably because of the Darwin fish on my boot but you can never be sure in Wales…
coffeekingFree Membercoffeeking – the bus stop and lamppost are there all the time so the blind person is used to their presence.
Just because you think its a mountain out of a molehilldoes not excue the OP. its wrong and you know its wrong.

You MUST NOT park partially or wholly on the pavement in London, and should not do so elsewhere unless signs permit it. Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.
“Should not” and in this case hasn’t inconvenienced anyone as the space left was (apparently) large enough to get by and if people with visual impairments are are unable to get around because there are obstacles that are in variable locations they’re utterly screwed going anywhere so may as well stay at home. IIRC the definition of causing an obstruction is narrowing the pavement to less than the legal minimum pavement width which, if I remember correctly, is 1.2m.

Quite right, too. You’ll get tyre marks all over the gold.

You know pavement parking is never justifiable.

Not everyone who rides a bike is a militant tofu-knitting swivel eyed anti-car loon, TJ…..
konabunnyFree Memberwhat if you had to take a child with a facial injury into hospital?
coffeekingFree Memberfor a supposed cyclists forum this place makes me laugh with the pro car attitudes expressed so often
What has a cycling forum go to do with a pro-car attitude? Really, you still amaze me despite my years on here. Just because I’m a cyclist with several types of bike including road bikes doesn’t mean I don’t like cars. That also doesn’t mean I condone bad behaviour on either side.
What in the world makes you think that people interested in bikes would all be against cars too? Some days you need a reality check.
You know pavement parking is never justifiable.
It is for people who see in colour rather than black and white.

🙂coffeekingFree MemberCan you not be both pro cycling and pro car?
Apparently they’re mutually exclusive, according to the master up there.

a well rounded human being on here? whatever next?
GrahamSFull MemberLOL at the google photo, with the red car with wheels on kerb……
All the other cars there were parked the same. It appeared to be standard practise there which is precisely why I did it 🙂

The missus didn’t fancy cycling there through the fields in her high heels and best Sunday dress. Women eh?
cynic-alFree MemberA neighbour turns his modded-exhaust 10+yr old Megane over for a few minutes at 6:30am every morning, I am thinking of leaving him/her a note (no idea who it is or where they live) offering to chip in for a new exhaust.
TandemJeremyFree MemberAh – the stench of hypocrisy. Never far away from the petrolheads on here.
konabunnyFree MemberNever fay away from the petrolheads on here.
Damn you and your funny Scotch words!
GrahamSFull MemberMy reply had I been permitted to give one:
“Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for drawing my attention to silly and inconvenient nature of my parking. I sincerely apologise for any offence caused.
By way of mitigation may I explain that we were attending a christening at the Methodist church, which I am sure you are aware was very well attended as it happily fell on Palm Sunday. Unfortunately we were running a little late that morning as our own baby daughter was ill – so I did park rather hastily in the limited space left available.
I confess I did mount the kerb, though I did endeavour to leave sufficient room on the pavement to allow a pushchair/wheelchair through. I assumed this was common practise as the road was narrow and every other car was parked in the same manner.
And I admit I did park near the bus stop, though as we were only there for an hour and the next timetabled bus wasn’t till Monday, I had hoped this indiscretion was forgiveable.
You are also quite correct in your assertion that I am not a resident of your village. In fact we came from the village a couple of miles down the road where, I’m glad to say, the people have better things to do than leave rude little accusatory xenophobic notes on cars.
Furthermore, having lived beyond the realms of this rural idyll in what us outsiders call “a city”, I can tell you that my parking, while not perfect, was far from worthy of your twitchy illiterate missive.
Yours Sincerely etc
PS I did not leave any rubish, though I did shit in the bus stop.
binnersFull MemberThink about it TJ. If we all didn’t drive cars then we wouldn’t need petrol. In which case all that North Sea Oil wouldn’t be of any use as its non-sale would fail to finance the socialist utopia you presently inhabit. 😀
convertFull MemberProbably not my bestest ever bit of parking, but we were late getting to a mate’s baby’s christening after our own baby was sick, and it was mobbed outside the church as it was also Palm Sunday.
Whatever you do, don’t use this as an excuse – it only riles us yokels! I live about 50yds from the church in our little village. The god bothers fill up our end of the village with their badly parked cars of a Sunday morning but it’s mostly OK. Christmas, Easter, christenings and funerals though – pah! The end came on Christmas day a couple of years ago when some muppet (in a BMW) parked directly across our drive completely blocking us in. I caught him as he went into the church and his response when I told him I’d miss Christmas with my family if he didn’t move his car – “but I’ll be late if I do that”. Let’s just say the self-centred, self-righteous, un-**** Christian arsehole church goers of this fair parish have not dared to darken my door (or driveway) since. And the vicar who lives 3 doors up now chooses to cross over the road when he sees me coming which even with my limited knowledge of the parables always makes me chuckle!

Ah – the stench of hypocrisy. Never far away from the petrolheads on here.
Of course you would never have committed any traffic offences like going through red lights or using dropped kerbs as jumps? 😉
GrahamSFull Member@convert: Ironically we live opposite a church in a cul-de-sac so I get blocked in by God-botherers, scouts, brownies and women’s groups on a regular basis – so far I’ve kept my notepad to myself 😀
wwaswasFull Memberso far I’ve kept my notepad to myself
could you not just pass the note you got on?
if you got it laminated it could be doing the rounds for years.

TandemJeremyFree MemberLaughable.
You want to justify the selfish and arrogant behaviour of a car driver but cannot so you attack me.
If I had criticised people for doing what I do myself you would be right. However I don’t pavement park and I don’t believe my convenience trumps everyone else’s.
molgripsFree MemberYou want to justify the selfish and arrogant behaviour of a car driver
No, he just doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal.
If, as he says, there was a line of cars parked there and his was just one space, the original note becomes a little harder to understand doesn’t it?
stumpy01Full MemberI am sure there are some people out there who go looking for reasons to be ‘outraged’, ‘offended’ and ‘disgusted’ just so they can write notes like this. Pathetic.
There’s lots of us on this island and we all need to get along – we all do things that ‘inconvenience’ others, but as long as it’s only a minor ‘inconvenience’ does it really matter??
There are plenty of pavements near me that are actually narrower than that bit of pavement would have been when GrahamS was parked.
How would visually impaired, wheelchair-users & double buggies cope in these situations? And on the other side of the road, there is NO pavement as an alternative option, just a grass bank & beyond that, a river……..
Surely someone should right a stern letter and get the council to increase the width of the pavement so that everyone can pass unimpeded & un-inconvenienced???konabunnyFree MemberI am sure there are some people out there who go looking for reasons to be ‘outraged’, ‘offended’ and ‘disgusted’ just so they can write notes like this.
You’re not talking about this thread, are you?

In that case, probably.
You go about your business without a care in the world, then something makes you think. I was JRA one day up in the valleys and I saw a lady pushing a wheelchair along a very busy road next to a pavement. It was one of those full life support ones, electrified I think and contained an adult who was fairly helpless. She was going to a council office dealing with disability something or other and had parked very near by it. However there was no dropped kerb for a hundred yards or so so she had no choice but to go along the road side to find one.
Makes you think. Often little stuff like this makes people’s lives really difficult. Same goes for parked cars on pavements (but not necessarily in the OP’s case). Imagine having to back down the pavement for ages, then come back along the road and find another dropped kerb, just because someone was late for church.
You can scoff but it happens all the time. Ask a wheelchair user.
cynic-alFree MemberHow can one be a hypocrite as a car owner who enjoys cycling, but not as a someone who berates others for illegal parking while happily RLJing etc ❓
*is confused by TJ’s “logic” *
PeyoteFree MemberSurely someone should right a stern letter and get the council to increase the width of the pavement so that everyone can pass unimpeded & un-inconvenienced???
It wouldn’t work, any attempt to remove road and put it into pavement (or even cycle lane, Heaven forbid!) would be jumped on from a great height by the political motorist lobby. Same as every other improvement that has been suggested for pedestrians and vulnerable road users for the past 30 years.
CougarFull MemberSomeone’s left a pissy note on your car, and instructed you that what ever you do, you must not litter? Seems to me that your next course of action is pretty obvious.
