I’ve striped of two large walls leaving behind one with bare plaster and some wallpaper paste residue and the other has been lining papered.
Whats the best way to paint over the top with emulsion?
At a guess I presume I could just paint straight over the lining paper but the bare wall with paste still on – sand it down and prime it with some zinnser BIN then paint?
Any one had any success doing this?

Isn’t it sugar soap you need, to wash the residue off?

If it doesn’t wash off with water then hanging lining paper on it is the way to go – probably not what you wanted to hear.

Line it to make sure you get a good finish. Otherwise, lots of sponging with hot water (lots!) then wait to fully dry and sand. Much easier to line it though.

Ok, so the wall that is already lining papered is ok to paint over the to off then.

If it’s just lining paper then yes. I’d still go over it all with a sponge first though, especially at the joins.
