Recommend me one? Was looking at a nice one in my LBS today, goretex, £130. Bit too much for me. Need it to be light and pack as small as possible, but as waterproof as possible. More for road use then mtb, if that makes a difference.

I bought one of these yesterday for £10. http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_18841.htm
Not tried it out yet. It’s just for emergency use if I’m going somewhere exposed like Clee Hill and think the weather might change.

I can’t see that remaining waterproof for very long.

+ 1 for the Aldi one, bought one on thursday but not used it yet. Packs very very small so it should be really good to throw in a pocket or camelbak.
I figured it was worth a go for the price.

Realman, the one I wanted before spotting this Aldi one was the Montane Featherlite H2O velo but at around 60 quids for an emergency windproof/waterproof, pfft!

    Is this any better ?

Tenn have got some good offers on at the moment. I bought this last week. http://www.tenn-outdoors.co.uk/light-flo-ii-waterproof–breathable-cycling-jacket–hiviz-yellowblack-xs
I’ve only worn it once, but it seems OK so far for £20.

I have the Montane Featherlite (bought when it was about £40). It is about the size (and weight) or a tennis ball when packed. It is fine in a light shower, if its bucketing down you still get wet – but I suspect anything breathable enough to be comfortable will leak in proper heavy rain.

Wife has the gortex – but it doesn’t pack as small.

    Prehaps this might be better

and if you’re worried about that not staying waterproof for long you could always go for the hardtop version

    Your skin is waterproof. HTFU.

My experience with waterproofs from £10 specials to £120 goretex paclites is you still end up getting wet with sweat from the inside, no matter how ‘breathable’ they are. I rarely bother anymore. Might pick up one of those Aldi jobbies for emergencies. In white, natch 😉

Montane Featherlight or Montane Featherlight H20? Two different things. I have the non H20 one and it’s as you describe
