  • Oval / wobble rings – any in steel?

I’m interested in trying an oval/wobble ring
My previous experience of aluminium chainrings is that they wear very fast and despite reversing a single chainring perodically leads onto wearing out the chain and cassette
[LX 2005/XT 2004 chainrings still scar my memory with their short lifespans]
Hence I normally try to use steel (toothed at least) chainrings

Are there any steel oval chainrings?

Those I have seen are good quality. Nothing like what you mention.

I’ve been running an absolute black one for over 800km and it’s still going 😀

I did see some very funky looking Ti ones the other day – not cheap at nearly 110/200 Euros but beautiful

Otherwise Works Components ones are currently reduced pre Christmas and are great value and pretty hard wearing in my experience.

Wolftooth have stainless ones on the way but it looks like they’re going to cost a fortune. TBH with 1x, decent chainrings wear reasonably well and are cheap enough to not stress about replacing- Works are as good as it gets imo and only £22.

Wolftooth do one for their Camo spider, to fit Cinch cranks.

Look up Doval rings on ebay, I got a few steel ones from them a while back. Intermittent supply. Lasting well, a good shape / oval orientation also.
