Random question of the day, does anyone know what diagnostic lead i need to help diagnose a problem with a 09 plate 1.8 petrol focus estate?

The engine intermittently cuts out when it’s cold so i figured it might be a dodgy sensor (and thus might show up on one of those leads you can get off fleabay)…

    Cheers in advance!

Sorry, no idea. But as I am looking to buy an 08/09 plate 1.8 petrol Focus by the weekend, I will be following this thread with interest 😕

Anyway, have a BTTT on me.

The ebay cheapies are usually generic OBD2, but if there’s no caution light illuminated on the dash there may not be a OBD2 code stored, you may need something more specialised.

Edit – OBD2 compliant readers will use a standard 16 pin lead which will fit a Ford.

F-Super/Formidable probably works with that, it’s cheap and excellent so if you’ve got a laptop, check the compatability and if so, get that.

I get 2p you find a crank or cam sensor fault… But I wouldn’t call that advice, mine was a TD not a petrol and the solution to everything was changing the crank sensor.

    Do you have a smartphone?

    I got one of these:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004KL0I9I/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_3p_dp_1

It works in the Focus and connects to the phone with Bluetooth.

Then you can leave the torque app running on your phone (free or £2.99) and it can log the faults as they occur along with telemetry.
