    A riding buddy of mine is looking to replace his Trance X with something a bit more capable. His thoughts are the Alpine RS but I think he can get more bike for the money (£3500) or spend less for an equally good spec..
    What other options are there?

    The Trance X is a thoroughly good base to upgrade. You don’t say which X he has but I would have thought if its down the 4 /3 end of things he could spend £1500 on new shocks and upgrading the groupset and wheels.

    That would be my call unless he’s got £3500 to spare…

    It’s an X0 I think, XTR, Fox 32 forks/shock, Crank Bros Wheels. Looking for something a bit burlier. 160mm travel, 34/36mm forks etc..
