    Hi Folks,

I’ve got a five year old 5 which has recently developed a crack (approx 5mm) at the top of the weld where the seat tube joins the top tube. From checking the Orange website the frame is about three years out of warranty.

Any advice on how to get it fixed or where to send it too to get welded. If it’s welded will the new weld be strong enough to get powder coated? I’m based in the North West.

    Thanks,

    Ed

Try orange first, even out of warranty they may fix at a good rate.

Still give orange a chance, they normally do an ace job. i can remember reading similar articles on here about them doing weld repairs and full re-sprays and then fitting new BB’s and headset for free (Hope of course)

As they ^ say, Orange first then take it from there. Then check your seatpost insertion and pie intake 😉

Had a similar issue last year myself, frame cracked between the top tube seat tube weld, spoke to Orange, even though out of warranty as mine was 4 1/2 years old it was looking at £400 for a new front end, and then an additional £200 for them to respray, it was also going to be around 6 weeks. I ideally just wanted the new front end, wasn’t bothered about colour but couldn’t wait 6 weeks with no frame.

I had it welded up by a specialist welding company near Warrington called Micro Engineering (precision welding)they were very knowledgable and helpful, and made a good job of it, welding through the crack, adding an extra gusset to strengthen and then re-reaming the seat tube. Cost about £75 all in.
