    Hello everyone.

I’m looking to fit a chain device for a dual ring setup on my Orange 5 2010 (BB mounted). I’ve got Raceface evolve cranks and have read people having trouble with installing devices like the Stinger and the superstar roller.

I was wondering if anyone had actually had success installing one of these? Or if anyone knew of some alternatives that are known to fit?

Thanks in advance for any help.
    Rob.

which evolves do you have? Im one with issues (granny bolts foul on the device) but I understand that newer ones came with extra washers so you could space the crank out more. Have you got a bundle of little (axle sized not BB shell sized) washers?

    Thanks for the reply boss.

I’ve got these: Race Face XC Evolve Triple X Type according to the specs on the site: http://www.orangebikes.co.uk/bikes/archive/2010/five_pro/

I didn’t get any washers but is there an option to space something out to stop the granny fouling? (Strange sentence that)

3A and 3B here (which my older Evolves came with)

and 12 here (which mine didnt, but if you can get hold of some might help)

putting both 3A and 3B on the drive side might space your crank out sufficiently, though it is crucial with RF cranks that the crank “bottom out” on the end of the splines (mine only needed one 3 spacer to do so) unlike Shimano.

Afraid from here I stop being helpful- I gave up and when I take my Alpine to Verbier I might swap the RF with the shimano crank from my other bike to allow me to use the stinger (which works if you can fit it!).

    Thanks for the info mate.

I’m a bit of a novice repairer so I didn’t quite understand the “bottom out” bit. Sorry if i’m being daft!

Did you manage to sort yours then with washers? How much was it fouling? Could you bend it? Grind something off?

    Cheers

I couldn’t sort mine. Bottom out as in hit the end of the splines; on shimano you tighten til snug then tighten the crank arm clamp bolts but in RF you tighten the bolt inside the drive side arm until you crank stops moving- you won’t be physically able to turn it any more once it has bottomed out on the end of the splines.

If you got the bike from a local supplier can they help- you can’t be the first customer to want a device with the standard RF crank and they may have a washer related solution or recommend a device that fits.
