    How do all

I'm thinking about getting a Cayenne as my commute has drastically reduced and I can get something a little silly. Plus they're going stupidly cheap at the moment which puts them above other potentials. Realise they aren't the most eco-friendly of vehicles but its only for a short period (year max) and I fancy getting something quick but still with space for a bike (and I don't want an RS4/6) before they all get legislated out of existence.

Specifically I'm looking at a Turbo, but would consider NA as well, any opinions appreciated

    *waits for abuse*

I like em. Capable off road too. Not as capable as say a Disco. But less of them on the road. Quicker too. Heavy on fuel as you say though.

you should buy what you like, but personally, if i had the money its the last thing on earth I'd consider. for too many reasons to list.

I agree, they aren't much of a looker but for the money you can't get anywhere near that sort of power with that amount of kit from anything else.

Additionally, £1300 gives you 550hp which should destroy my friends RS6. Crucial.....

    Not the prettiest of vehicle.

before they all get legislated out of existence.

I'd be worried about residuals - probably why they're going cheap at the mo, and the tax / fuel regime could be worse by the time you come to sell.

Is the new tax banding thing only applicable on cars newer than 2004? Is it not just the blanket £400 or have I conjured that number up?

Dont bother with the turbo model, pisses through fuel and only a mighty 0.1sec faster to 60.

    It's also gopping.

I had to Google to find out what on earth it is.
That is one ugly Chelsea tractor...seems perfect if you have money and no taste I guess.

911's are all well and good but for similar money I'd be looking at a ropey 996 Carrera 2 - the one I had a look at last weekend had a car phone in it the size of a phonebook. And not the new smaller pathetic 'everyones gone ex-directory' phone book either...

Older ones are fugly newer ones look quite nice. Probably wouldnt be my vehicle of choice but its not my choice. Would you really want to put a muddy bike in a Porsche tho?

Do yourself a favour - get the Cayman or Boxster Spyder instead. Use something else for the bike

Funny enough I just on confused and got an insurance quote of £600 for a boxster, which wasn't quite as shocking as I'd hoped for

There are other fast estates - M5 estates have been around while.

Personally, if I had that kind of cash about, I'd buy whatever sports car I fancied - an Elise, a Boxster, an M3, whatever, and a "meh" car I can stick the bikes in. Or a hot hatch.

I can't really see the point of the Cayenne as a vehicle. For me it's up there with the AMG G-Wagen and wearing a gold chain with a diamond encrusted $ symbol.

My sister in law had a non-turbo version. They lost a sh1tload of money on it, was fairly uncomfortable, very thirsty and was basically a waste of space compared to our XC90 which at least does 30mpg and can fit lots of my daughters mates inside.
Other than that..... brilliant - apart from the looks

get the Cayman or Boxster Spyder

You mean the ones you buy when you can't afford a 911?

It's a pointless car bought by pointless people for pointless things.

Everytime I see one I wonder how stupid the driver must be.

Presuming you are serious (which I hope you aren't), everyone in the know will know you are driving round in a 13K car and aren't really loaded at all. This is in addition to the other drawbacks highlighted above.

Really all you will be saying is I am a ******.

Lighter, more fun? Don't know as I haven't driven one. Engine not the wrong side of the rear axle?

And yes, the sort of money that a damn site more folks could aspire to.

Have a friend with a turbo, and he loves it but is getting fed up with all the abuse he gets on the road. As a car in its own
Right it has been fine and super quick as well as fairly competent off road as well. However if you ever go near a porsche dealer be prepared for some BIG bills! ( they tried to chrarge Gary £600 for an oil change and £250 for a plastic wheel arch liner !)

Personally, I would look for a good Range Rover (pre the P4 model which was nowhere near as good as the earlier one).
They are cheaper to buy in the first place (enough to by a decent 'spare' bike and a couple trips away), look, and in my opinion are, cooler and just exude class. Also the values on pre P4 cars is going up at moment so if you going to keep it for a year you shouldn't lose that much if anything in depreciation.

The Range Rovers running costs are lower as well, but not by a massive amount.

I can't really see the point of the Cayenne as a vehicle.

It quickly and reliably communicates that the driver has neither taste nor brains.

Non turbos are just a drag and pretty pointless. Turbos are fast but still pointless. Get a Touareg deisel if you really need a 4x4.

  35. higgo - Member

A Cayenne is a car that you buy regardless of people's opinions. So this thread is pretty much pointless.

They're wrong in so many ways but it's the kind of thing I can see myself having for a while, enjoying and then getting rid of.

We don't have to be sensible all the time, do we?
