Mach 20 FFS! That's James Bond shit!
Despite the fact they've lost it, the technology behind it is pretty bloomin' fantastic!
Capable of LA to NY in under 12mins is just stunning. I read somewhere that it should be able to reach anywhere in the globe in around an hour!
That's just mind bogglingly quick!

More scarily if it can go that fast who knows where it ended up.
Posted 9 months ago # -
Indeed - if it hit somewhere residential it would take out quite a few buildings & peeps.

yeah well at mach 20 I imagine it would be a big bang.
Posted 9 months ago # -
yeah but the bang would arrive minutes afterwards..

But it flew in 2010 and they've only just admitted that it's lost now...
Next time I'm paddling at Clacton or Whitstable I'll look out for a slightly burnished delta winged object washing up on the shore.

I read somewhere that it should be able to reach anywhere in the globe in around an hour!
and then 3 years to find it again.

But it flew in 2010 and they've only just admitted that it's lost now...
was that not the first one?
...which they also lost

Could they not afford a GPS tracker? One of the engineers should have left a phone on board...
Posted 9 months ago # -
they should have put a monkey on board to give the engineers a call if it got in to trouble.

Admittedly the Pacific is pretty big but you wouldn't have wanted to be in the way of it, even if it had lost quite a lot of it's speed/heat by the time it got to sea level.
I suspect it did have a GPS on board to be honest. I bet the dispay is just saying, "establishing sattelite link, please ensure you have a clear view of the sky for maximum performance".

In one way the technology in achieving these sorts of speeds if far simpler than a normal jet engine. Where the technology is needed is stopping it from melting and making sure the fuel can be delivered and burned quickly enough.
