looking for a route planning tool thats nice and easy to use showing bike friendly trails trying to keep it legal witout using too many special trails any ideas or am i heading down the map shop

Are there any that snap to paths etc like they do with roads?

gmap-pedometer (it certainly has snap to for cycling/walking).

not the easiest site to use if you want to get GPX files out of it (ie manual plugin thing, cut/paste into an editor, then a bit of manual GPX file hacking if you have more than 1 route and don’t want duplicate waypoint IDs).

The training route part if the Great North Run site is great and free to use, if you’re happy with road based routes.

The google mapping will eventually do this.
