    HI,

My 40 tooth big back ring arrived today and it turns out I need to butcher my cassette to fit it…

The website says chop the cassette behind the 15 tooth ring and not to worry about knackering the plastic spacer.

I don’t understand how I’ll put the replacement cog on without a spacer?

I’m probably being dense, but could someone help me out? 🙂

    Thanks

Is it because you are taking out one of those sprockets and the smaller one that will still be used has the spacer built in?

BTW I know I’m useless at explaining this. 😉

You’re cutting between the 15t and 17t cog, and then ditching the 17t, so don’t need a spacer because there is one on the 19t cog that will fit between the 19t and 15t.

There should be a spacer with the 40t.

The 40t has a spacer designed into it.

You can just drill the end of the three pins out.

Where does the 16 tooth cog go, that came with the 40?

It’s go no spacer so would sit flat on the existing next cog up on the cassette….

Or do I ignore that one?

    Done it!

I still don’t quite understand how it worked, but it did 🙂

Had planned on getting one of these along with a xt cassette, didnt realise you could use an slx. Any benefits to using xt over slx other than not having to use a saw or drill to split the cassette?
