I’m running 2×9 on the Rocket, and I’ve been getting bored of the sliders on my Bionicon guide wearing though so quick, so I thought I’d give this 9S SRAM shifter/10S Shadow+ mech business a try.

To make it work, apparently you need a spacer, about 6mm deep between the cable, and the original clamp. Looking through the bits box for something to make it out of, I stumbled over a broken XT Shadow 9S mech. The cable arm on that is spot on the right size.

So a few minutes work with a hacksaw and file had it off and tidied up. It locates perfectly in the space were the tabbed washer usually sits and has the right shaping to take the washer and a nice groove for the cable to sit in. All in all, a nice solution. (if you happen to be bodging up a drivetrain and have a knackered Shadow mech to hand!)

    Old mech, sans cable mount

new mech with spacer in place.

A bit geeky, but might be useful for somebody!
