  • One for the planners – part change of use on a barn conversion?

Anyone know this one. If a new barn conversion has ‘offices’ on the back of it so as to pass planning, how long would you have to wait until you could change the office to a couple of bedrooms? I assume that you’d have to get change of use on part of a property…
    Cheers

yes you need change of use. No permitted rights from B1 to residential.

And how long after a new conversion would be reasonable to wait before applying for change of the remaining comercial part? (it’s attatched to the main builing, not sure if that makes a differance)

Until the planning officer changes and they forget why they insisted on offices when planning was granted.

    That sounds about right sadly!

pretty much as above: “Until a sufficient change of circumstances”

    those circumstances may be:
    govt policy,
    change of planning officer,
    parish council opinion,
    local redevelopment
    etc

Unfortunately “the missus wants an en suite” doesnt count 😉
