…..which one would it be? What are you an STW Authority on?(not including your profession/job)

Ok I’m an armchair expert at most things, but if I had to choose one, it would be…..cakes! 😀

    Is that an expert opinion?

The problem with declaring oneself an expert is that there is always someone out there better at it than you.

There are others in here who know more than me about
    Excel
    Biomass boilers
    Chainsaws
    Landrovers

And that’s my inadequacy laid bare 🙁

As stoner elucidated, it very much depends who you are mixing with.

With normal people it might be bikes and bike maintenance but if mixing with an STW crowd I could be considered wanting on that subject whilst my experience with the laydezz could be considered extraordinary! 😉

Through many conversations I believe I may have accumulated the requisite knowledge to consider myself the world expert in my failings as a human being.

A couple of years ago I was definitely an expert at EVE Online PvP.

At the moment I don’t really feel like I’m an expert in anything.

Can’t really profess to being a true expert in anything. Perhaps I should pick a subject and really put some effort in.

I think I’ll take reviewing pornography as my first subject

    Photography and cameras?

Are you really an expert on photography and cameras? I appreciate you may have many years of optical design, advanced aspheric/low dispersion glass manufacture behind you, a good grounding in CCD/CMOS digital on chip processing, sound colour reproduction theory (colourspaces etc( L.A.B./CMYK/RGB) conversant with Bayer array and 3-4 layer sensor technology, micro lenses etc not forgetting silver halide/E6/c41 etc and that’s before we get to the actual photography.

Maybe you have all of the above and the imaging industry looks to you to help develop new products? Would love to know what’s round the corner sensor wise if you are that person.

Used to be really good at flipping prints and posters.. Made a fair bit of cash on Banksy and blek Le rat prints.
Also quite an expert at ripping the piss out of people at work, sarcasm, and cooking Thai food.

XC MTB racing – I was offered places on several pro teams, but their training schedules always clashed with my voluntary work at the orphanage.

Used to design and build all my own frames, but gave it up so I could turn the garage into a rescue home for animals with broken legs, wings, tentacles, etc.

I have grown the world’s largest Bonsai. I am semi bi-lingual. I can afford to travel to work every day in my own personal Concorde – but when I do, I always sit in tourist class so as not to be showy.

Also, bullshitting – but that’s not a skill that I would ever employ here.

In the winter there is very little to wave about. In fact I think you could save a lot on materials if you went into production….

Used to be an expert on the Big Bang, and I don’t mean Sheldon, either.
Now an expert on trying to get out of 4th Cat racing.
OCD and an ability to assimilate information makes me an expert on OCD.

In the day job, I’m an expert on the Clinical Pharmacology of monoclonal antibodies.

Well considering one rule of thumb for becoming an expert is 10,000 hours of practice, I can only think of two possibilities.

    1. Walking across the hills without a GPS without getting lost.
    2. Sleeping.
