How do you overcome the problem of having items you have bought not being delivered because they are too big for your letter box? If we are not in when the postie calls we have to wait until Saturday morning before we can go to the sorting office to pick it up.

I leave beer from time to time and the nice postie leaves parcels in the stair cupboard then posts the key. Do you have a stair cupboard ?
(although this is the first place i have lived where they bring the parcel routinely, every other postie has just gone straight to "while you were out" but thats another thread)

Leave my porch unlocked, with a neighbour or in the recycle bin.

It was always quite amazing a few years back - whilst being a student and spending all day at home - how often you'd end up with a "While you were out" despite not leaving the house all day
Nowadays I get everything delivered to work. No idea what I'd do if I worked in a military base or something.

I'm lucky enough to be able to go to the sorting office before work as it's on the way. Occasionally I get things delivered to the post office. Sometimes my neighbour takes it.
It is annoying isn't it. I actively avoid companies that do not deliver using royal mail.
You can get boxes that you can bolt to your house with a yale lock. You leave them open, postie drops the item and then closes it so it locks.

I get things delivered to work. The people in the mail room are used to getting private parcels delivered, but I give them the occasional packet of biscuits to show my appreciation.

Jon B I think they are called 'Hippo boxes'
JJ55 Lots of small businesses now use Royal Mail Tracked and there is an option on the label for a safe place, ie shed, garage , greenhouse etc
