I am watching the fencing but in Portuguese and missed exactly what the problem was.

never thought fencing could be so dramatic!

Any explanation as to what is happening?

“South Korean fencer Shim A Lam was beaten by Germany’s Britta Heidermann an hour ago but is refusing to move from the competition area. She’s sitting down, dejected, towel around her shoulders and is refusing to move. It’s been a hour. South Korea are said to be submitting an appeal against the defeat.”

“First up it is official the written appeal has gone in. There’s a call to have a press conference right now but my understanding is that the international federation will not be holding a press conference during the time because it is unfair on the athletes involved.

“They are preparing a written statement but they won’t give any detail on who will be involved in making that decision and how they will come to it. This is not going to be resolved in the next five minutes. It will take some time.”

Building fences is a lympic event now? Was there a scandal in the picket versus log final again?

The International Fencing Federation has offered South Korean Shin A Lam a “special medal” after her controversial epee semi-final defeat.

Shin refused to leave the piste for 70 minutes as a written appeal against her defeat by Britta Heidemann was heard and rejected.

The South Koreans had a further appeal rejected on Tuesday but Shin was not appeased by the prospect of the award.

“It does not make me feel better. It’s not an Olympic medal,” she said.

“I don’t accept the result because I believe it was a mistake.”
