I have some old school solid plastic knee/shin pads (with soft padding on too which appears to be stitched to the plastic).

First off for some reason they have started rubbing – they never used to – now I get sores on my knees! Any ideas on how to fix? Is there something you can coat hot spots in to make smooth again, or some kind of material to glue on top?

Second off they’re pretty filthy. Does anyone know if you can stick them through the wash at 40 degrees, or will that mess up glue/velcro/something like that?

    Cheers!

Put them in the washing machine, wash them in a bucket – whatever.

Try slipping a thin synthetic cloth between pad and knee, I use a buff.

I had some old Dianesse ones that did this. Put it down to the elastic stretching as they aged. I think it is a problem with most knee/shin combos aftre a time. I got some 661 Padlocks and that sorted them out.

So you mean if I can get the elastic tighter it might not move around so much and hence rub?
