Watched Old Boy for the first time tonight, although not a classic, it is a refreshing change from the usual Hollywood dross. Any other good independent of foreign language recommendations? (Not City of God or Pans Labyrinth).

Downfall.

Unfortunately Hollywood have decided it needs remaking….

+1 for Downfall, assuming you don’t want a happy film!

I have seen Downfall as well. Another good film. So well done you almost feel sorry for Hitler.

Sympathy for Mr/Lady Vengeance, check out some of Takashi Miike’s work as well, my favourite probably Ichi the Killer and 13 Assassins.

Brotherhood – the Korean one.
A Very Long Engagement – if you want a soppy war story. It’s actually very good.
Das Experiment – the original German one for some highly watchable but unbelievable entertainment

Those are some of my favourites.

How about some early Peter Jackson stuff? I’d go for Bad Taste and Braindead*

*if you count spoken ‘New Zeland’ English as foreign!

like Amelie or Priceless

There is another good south Korean film but I can’t remember it’s name. It starts with a giant fish jumping out of the sea and stealing the guys daughter

Never seen Amelie but I am tempted. Also like Brain dead and Bad Taste. Thought Taxi and Tzameti 13 were a couple of good French films.

aye, Let The Right One In is brilliant if you haven’t seen it.

Julia’s Eyes has just started on Film 4.
Well worth watching.

Just saw the underpass trailer. About s**t myself. Appears good if it is not like Troll Hunter which is terrible.

Don’t for goodness sake watch Irreversible…really good film but full of images that are irreversibly stuck in your memory afterwards. I watched it years ago, but the fire extinguisher still makes me feel odd.

Old Joy – Lol! Great film…Bonnie Prince Billy is world out there on his own =D

Wings of Desire is a lovely thoughtful film…great early 80’s Berlin, with an appearance from Columbo!

Battle Royale. I spent the first half an hour after watching it thinking WTF?

recently really enjoyed timecrimes ( cronocimenes), spanish timetravel film – really good

Roman De Gare,Tell no One both, french and worth a watch,

Death Note 1 and 2 – well worth a look if you like Old Boy and the like.

Yeah, I liked the death note films.

Irreversible!

Should come with a bit of a warning that? Quite shocking, 2 scenes especially (underpass and fire extinguisher – not spoilers), even by todays standards

What’s the one about the guy who keeps his children inside the walls of his property all their lives? That’s a bit out of leftfield.

If you like Old Boy you MUST watch I Saw the Devil.
