I can't get a bike rack I like for the Mercedes so I am going to buy a Land Rover instead. I am thinking of a Turbo Diesel for about 2 – 2.5K

Anything I need to look out for?

    lots

for the money, a discovery is a better all round car, which is arguably comfier / quieter on the long runs, will have the 200 or 300 Tdi engine ( and not the simpler 2.5 turbo ) and if compared to a short wheel base, a larger boot.

If your adamant on a 90 or a 110 type land rover, then I would really recommend you push for a 200 or 300 tdi version. they are just better engines.

Other than that, its a case of looking out for corrosion … that includes rust on the chassis ( especially the rear bumper end ) , bulkhead, panel work bubble with the white flakey stuff.

the list is endless to be honest

but they are great cars. I miss mine

If it's for the bikes, why not a (small) van?

Not wedded to the idea of the defender but I thought the older Discos were unreliable and a bit rubbish or was that just the first generation?
