Going to shoot automatic weapons at The Gun Store is a bit of fun.

If you like cars, Shelby museum and factory is good and free as well. We hired a car for the day to get there, it’s a bit out of town.

Gun Store is fun, but brief.

Make sure you go to Freemont, “old” Vegas.

Some amazing countryside outside Vegas, Red Rock Canyon is close and you can probably do organised trips to there. Hiking and biking – I did a half day road bike ride where they picked up from the hotel, supplied a bike, gave me a route and picked up at the end.

Helicopter rides – we did the one into the Grand Canyon, over the Hoover Dam and up the strip.

Play Blackjack, get free drinks while you play. The dealers are generally helpful to newbies plus you can buy a basic strategy card if you want to minimise losses.

Drive to/visit Hoover Dam.

Liberace museum is now sadly closed.

Time your attendance at the buffet to be there towards the end of lunch – as the time ticks over to dinner they start to bring out a wider variety of dishes, but they don’t increase your charge.

And play on being british (don’t get offended if they call you english), you can get away with all sorts by being slightly plummy.

Do:
Hire a car and drive out of the city for a day.We did red rocks, valley of fire and hoover dam, then get wazzed on margaritas in margaritaville which is on the strip attached to the Flamingo casino. See the Circe du Solliel show at the Mirage. We had a good night out in the piano bar in New York New York too. Go out to the old Vegas (Fremont Street) and eat at Tony Roma’s. The cafe under the Eiffel Tower does a great breakfast especially the eggs benedict.
Be prepared to lounge around the pool drinking beer all afternoon whilst being pounded by loud party tunes!

Don’t:
Get fed up with being hassled to take a heli trip to the Grand Canyon.

Death Valley is easily done in a day.
On the strip don’t walk too far, its exhausting in the heat. Depending where you are staying its a good idea to walk to one end and get a cab or bus back.

It’s four miles long, with endless opportunities to cool down with an overpriced shit beer. It’s not possible to walk too far on a four mile road, regardless of the weather.

Beer, good point. The Pub in the Monte Carlo has well over a 100 different ones from plenty of US craft places plus worldwide.

It’s probably still overpriced, but not shit.

There’s a fab waterpark there for something different (and cooler)

The only reason I’d ever go to Vegas (again) is to use it as a start/end to a road trip.

If you must stay there then any more than 2 days is enough

Don’t: go back.

If you’re going to do the casino ‘experience’ then budget how much money you’re prepared to lose playing and and do not go over it. If you’re not bothered about casinos then explore the surrounding area, take a helicopter ride through the Grand Canyon or a magic / cabaret show in the evening.

The entire place is designed to part you from your money. Every door you walk through will have a bloke in a snazzy suit with his hand outstretched; screw ’em, opening doors isn’t difficult.

Sounds awesome were not going to spend loads of time in the casinos! But will be trying to do as much as possible we’ve got 7 nights there so should fit in quite abit!

I wouldn’t go, I bloody hate consumerism.

Chap (read as arsehole) I now went there to get married. 2 days later he got bladdered with his new missus then went to bed. Woke up at 3am and being a compulsive gambler decided to go and lose some money. He ended up getting chatted up my a lady of the night and went back to her hotel with her.

As I say, he is a bit of an arsehole.

I went x3 last year for work and fun, nightlife is loads better in the week, weekends are when Hicksville arrive and it’s just crazy tourists, If you don’t have a hotel booked yet go cheap hotel fri/sat and treat yourself to an amazing suite mid week for next to nothing.
Cool hotel bars are the Palms on the roof (not Been for a few years) nice quiet ish bar with great views in the mandarin oriental, Winn has great bars. Out let malls on ether end of the strip are good sports stuff Nike etc.
I’ve been twice for UFC fights and it feels like half of America arrives on the Saturday am, something is on near every weekend but nothing draws crowds like boxing/UFC
If your a foody nubu etc are easy walk in casual dinning and are amazing food and not as expensive as uk/London prices but food as service is fantastic.
Obviously the shows on the strip are good if that’s what your into?

To do vegas without it being largely disapointing, be prepared to spend money. Seriously..lots of money! Shows, activities, excursions etc.

Unless your hotel is off the strip and isnt attached to a hotel then be prepared for the smoke!.
Be prepared to sacrifice your hotel room for a few nights and get out of town.

Dont go to Glitter Gulch in old town, its the most agressive titty bar ive ever been in.. Not the clientelle, the girls.
Rental cars are 25 buck a day and gas is cheap.

Use the bus to get uo and down the strip, and stick it out at the hotel pool on days you are staying in town and head out for dinner and plan to explore the casinos etc later on.
Some great food places, but many many more with absolute swill being served.
Fashion area is cool, so is nyny.
Zip lines under the light show in old town looked fun. Shuts down earlier than you expext to book in advance.
Shoot some guns, jump off stratosphere.

It’s over-priced and despite thinking I was going to hate it I really enjoyed it in the end. A week will be plenty!
Go see Penn & Teller, grab a cabaret show (absinthe or Vegas are good). Wander in & out of the hotels as many have crazy interior designs and the scale of it is just something else compared to anything over here.
Get an early morning helicopter -> Hoover Dam/Grand Canyon, worth the money – be aware they’ll likely charge you a few quid extra when you get there to checkin though, seems a standard ploy.
Go up the Stratosphere when it’s 2-4-1 cocktails. They’re decent drinks & you get decent value if you stay a couple of hours. Consider doing the rides out on the top if you’re brave!
Freemont at night is fun on a weekend, a couple of live bands on the outdoor stages.
Drink frozen margaritas / daiquiris at any given opportunity.

I hate the place and can’t fathom why anyone would pay to go when Skegness and Blackpool are equally as grim and much cheaper to get to! But the MTB should be good!

A mate had a horrific experience there-he got spiked and it all nearly ended for him. Watch out as the whole place is full of desperadoes.

Generally it’s an awful place. It feels like all the worst parts of modern society gathered in one place. Glad I went but was pretty glad to leave after 3 days working there.

It’s actually cleaned up a lot and is now worth a visit. I first went 15 years ago and it was horrible, I stayed that end as it was cheap and you could quickly see why. I went back last year and it was a lot better, it’s been cleaned up a lot and whilst still seedy, it’s no worse than a lot of the rest of Vegas. I quite liked it actually.

When I was there a colleague asked a local how to know which girls who were talking to him were hookers. The reply?

ive only been the two times, both boozy weeks of debauchery with the lads. had an absolute ball both times. one was a stag do, we had booked all kinds of fun activities and managed to turn up for zero!! good tip about being plummy tho, went VIP in Ghost bar on the roof of the Palms one night when this rich Texan cottoned onto us coz he thought it was hilarious we didnt sound like Jeeves… great times….

one tip tho that many brits dont embrace is craps, play craps! stick or twist / red or black – boring! look around the casino and the people having most fun are round the craps table. just shadow someone who looks like they know what theyre doing, copy their bets, you’ll soon get the hang of it, and youll be hollaring, high fiving and asking demi moore to kiss your dice in no time!!
