ideas for a half good dh type bike or frame
reasonably cheap, and a bit more forgiving than a 456.

    any idea’s?

Pukka DH? Check YT Industries, Canyon, Kona Entourage or Operator. Decent kit for not much cash.

Canyon’s seem a safe bet, or check southern downhill for 2nd hand

Also check out rose bikes own brand, but cannyon do spend money on development and have a bloody good reputation.

Have a look at rose bikes as well, the beef cake DH £1500 ish, and the Beefcake FR £1350 ish. full bikes.

the rose bikes and the canyon bikes look like fantastic value.

The YT Tues is probably better value spec than Rose or Canyon and the frame seems well regarded.

…or go secondhand like rich suggested.

Have you seen the electric all mountain bikes using the seatube mounted motors? Think Solid make them, it’s based on their AM bike but weighs a few lb more.

Southern downhill have some very very nice bikes second hand, for around the price of the Canyon’s however 2nd hand and downhill always feels a little dodgy.

Second-hand would be sensible avoiding depreciation if you decided dh isn’t for you.

Anyway shameless plug – here is a starter for ten (actually One hundred and fifty!)

i have mate, been having a proper good look.
i am wanting a dh bike to do uplifts and nothing else tho. proper enjoyed innerleithan on sunday, and it is something i can do even with the problems.

i have however nearly managed to save for one of these…..to do some summit bagging on.

    without wanting to sound rude.

at your size, I’d pick the one with the best warranty…

    IMO, Giant, Specialized or Trek.

You are going to need a low leverage ratio as well, or else you are never going to be able to get springs heavy enough

Spesh and giant seem to break too easily.
    Id look at older Konas.

Bollocks, Glorys and Demos have no more reliability issues than anyone else but much better backup than most.

I would go for yeah 2:1 or close as possible. Canyons are 2.2:1 which is pretty good.
