don’t they feel good when you ride them.
all nice and set up correctly, no faff and fuss.
no too long cables, chain, gears jumping, trying to mix and match old with new.
    i like new bikes me…. 😉

But they’re never perfect Tony! You ALWAYS have to change something!

YES! It’s lovely. I’d not had one for years until recently. Set it up. All finished. Nice and crisp, everything is shiny, new and it works. Bish Bash Bosh.

I’ll give it a week, Ton. Shame, your bikes are too big for me ;-(

(and I’m pretty sure you’re a money-laundering front for that Stanford bloke)

    Not had one for years..

Allways prefer to take a box of Jaffa Cakes and bits to my mates in the shop, and build up me bike with bits that I like, not just cos they are there…

love them, and they work so well for ages too. every bike i’ve built up has never worked properly, at least not as well as the off the peg bikes i’ve got now.

Ive only had 3 off the peg bikes the last one was at the turn of the century! Wish I could afford to change more than one major thing at a time. It always takes so long to get a build just right.

Show us a pic then so we can insult your lawn!

Building is better, because that new build feeling goes away after a few muddy rides but if you built it you can strip it and start again and rebuild with a new bike every summer.

But the cables are only the right length and the chain not skipping etc because someone in the shop built it well, which needn’t be any different with a custom build! I’d sooner custom build, there’s usually some annoying problem with off the shelf bikes!

Whilst a new bike is good, cant afford one, so mix n matching is cool. Mine works fine and NOTHING is original.
Love the simple joy of upgrading to my exact tastes.

Only ever bought 1 bike off the peg (proper mtb that is). The next errr, 6 have been bought as frames then built up from bits left over after “upgrading” or previous bikes.

Its part of the fun for me and they have all worked brilliantly.

i always buy as a frame and build myself.
you have to when you have special needs like me 😉
but i find i can not do with all the faff.
if i had a nice clean workshop, i suppose it would be differant.
rather that a a damp old garage.

You can get the same effect by taking your mix-and-match bike to the bike shop and paying the mechanic to fix the indexing and make the cables, chain etc the right length though, can’t you?
