    Hi,

I have the green light for my first ride this year after having our first Baby.

Just wondering if it’s a gloop fest on the South Downs?

Should I go out of my road Fixie or go off road on my mountain bike?

    Thanks for any help!

Go off road on the fixie.

up top and anything that’s bare chalk is ok.

Conditions elsewhere are pretty poor, although not much rain today and tomorrow and a bit more sun might dry it a little.

    anything sheltered/wooded is bad.

On the whole: ride off road if that’s what you love, it’s only a bit of mud 🙂

Up round Chanctonbury last night, it was filthy but so wet that the mud is liquid so at least the bike doesn’t jam up. I reckon it will be worse when starting to dry out when you get the wheels won’t turn/mech ripped off clag fest. Proper pair of mud tyres and you’ll be reet.

Found out the wooden bridge bit on the lower part of the Steyning blue run could do with some chicken wire though, oof!

careful on Truleigh Hill, some of the ruts have got a lot deeper…

Thanks for the pics. Doesn’t look too bad. Those ruts aren’t too dissimilar from those around the old stein.

    MTB it is then 🙂
