Sometimes my laptop (recent £300 thing, not too crap) either takes forever or fails completely to download websites, while my phone and ancient desktop work fine.

It’s not the connection as there’s always some sites that are fine. It can be google, stw, endomondo, HDUK.

Running chrome on pcs. Can’t think what it could be, TM not showing anything obvious (to me) any ideas?

what does speedtest.net show when the downloads are slow, compared with when they are transferring at “normal” speed ?

I’ve seen something a bit similar and I put it down to the instant search stuff in Chrome where it tries to guess which page you are going to load and do it in background. If it is trying to get the wrong page or there is one there that is borked then that may screw things up.

Try switching off the prediction stuff in the privacy section of advanced settings to see if that helps
