I got 2 OCZ Octane 2 ssds for the 2 pcs in the house. While the performance has been much better than the hdds , we have had problems on both pcs with the drives disappearing. Both are in new computers with i7 processors.

When you reboot, the drives can just disappear resulting in the computer not booting. You need to power off to get the drive to appear again. They also crash intermittently needing a check disk to run before you can start again.

Any ideas in how to resolve before I just give up and get something else?

I’m no expert on SSDs, but I’ve heard poor reports about the OCZ offerings.

Historically, you could set a delay on boot to allow old IDE drives time to spin up. No idea how long SSDs take to initialise (I’d have thought it should be ‘instant’) but you could perhaps check BIOS to see if there’s any settings pertaining to disk startup times?

Check to see if there’s a firmware update for the BIOS on your motherboards, maybe?

Ocz do have a reputation for variable firmware compatibility. Could be worth trying to get hold of another drive to compare if you can?
