Basically I have an on one codeine which comes with a narrow/wide ring and a chain guide. If I remove the guide will I suffer chain loss without a clutch mechanism? Cheers chris

I run 2 1×9 bikes with NW chainrings and no clutch fine.

No problem here either (Superstar NW, Deore 9spd cassette, ancient XTR rear mech).

Depends on you more than the clutch tbh! Narrow/wide ring is doing almost all the work, clutch doesn’t make much difference. But some people find they want a device.
