Why does my local mosque feel the need to broadcast the ceremony over loudspeaker to the entire valley? Its a nice sunny day, i've got the window open and all i can hear is Bwaaaayaaamaaanapatarataaaaaaa……. It sounds awful.

    'tis annoying.

    It's noise pollution, no?

Like church bells. Or the constant drone of traffic noise resulting from our worship of the car.

Isn't it the call to worship that they sing / broadcast out?

So it's a reminder to the faithful to get their arses down to the mosque. Same as Catholic churches having the dong dong dong bell before a service, and normal churches having ringy ring bells?

So yeah, it is noise pollution, the same as dingy dong bells in a church, but given we generally accept that they are okay, I don't see what's wrong with this.

Any sentance that starts with those words…. I'm not racist but; means that a racist sentance is about to be spilled out. Move to Switzerland if you don't like it!

    I live opposite a church.

They ring the bells every quarter of an hour, including weird times like 3am.
    Bell practise is appalling.

I think I'd rather have a nice bloke singing 🙂

i kind of like hearing the allah akbar thing when i'm somewhere hot and dusty. although i once climbed a post and stuck a pair of socks in a loudspeaker outside a mosque in Luxor – the loudspeaker that pointed at my hotel room. which was very racialisticionary of me. i would be reluctant to do the same in this day and age of jihadists. feel free to try the same bomberman and let us know how you get on

IMO – Not racist but in some cases a noise pollution issue, worth checking with your local environmental folk, i mean you can get orders telling you to lower your music in your house etc. I suppose and expect you will get nowhere though.

sure it's annoying, no more annoying than church bells though

i'm sure you aren't a racialist but you certainly got a thread title :FAIL:

just be glad you live in a vibrant multi ethnic area. Lots of people died in several wars so that you could hear the sound of the call to prayer, and so that you could complain about it 🙂

(Sound: Church bells, lots of them, ringing.)

Husband: I wish those bloody bells would stop.

Wife: Oh, it's quite nice dear, it's Sunday, it's the church.

Husband: What about us atheists? Why should we 'ave to listen to that sectarian turmoil?

Wife: You're a lapsed atheist, dear.

Husband: The principle's the same. Bleedin' C.V.! The Mohmedans don't come 'round here wavin' bells at us! We don't get Buddhists playing bagpipes in our bathroom! Or Hindus harmonizing in the hall! The Shintoists don't come here shattering sheet glass in the shithouse and shouting slogans-

Wife: All right, don't practice your alliteration on me.

Husband: Anyway, when I get my membership card and blazer badge back from the League of Agnostics, I shall urge the executive to lodge a protest against that religious racket! Pass the butter knife!

    Wife: WHAT??

Husband: PASS THE BUTTER KNIFE!! (pause) THANK YOU! IF ONLY WE HAD SOME KIND OF MISSILE!

    Husband: Graham Chapman
    Wife: Terry Jones

I am in Swizerland at the moment and had a great conversation with a group of blokes in the bar last night. I am trying to start a campaign here to take photos of all the ugly church spires in Switzerland and then ban all future church spire building.

I know that pretty church spires are okay but some of the concrete monstrocities they have are fugly. If we let them build these they will desecrate the beautiful Swiss sky line.

The conversation started with a white Swiss bloke saying to me and these other blokes 'I am not racist but having minerets will desecrate the Swiss sky line'. A few of the darker skinned blokes took umbrage and then the first guy tried to get me on his side. I started off pretending to agree with him:

Yes, some buildings are inappropriate in certain places. – The Tunisians weren't happy
I them pointed at a glass fronted bank building and said it was a perfect example and should be pulled down. – He frowned a bit, Tunisians smiled a bit.
    He started about 'culturally relevent'
I agreed. Perhaps they could just be in Muslim nieghbourhoods.
    He nodded.
And perhaps we could build walls around these niebourhoods so no-one could see the offensive buildings – Tunisians laughing openly now
He desperately trying to back pedal.

ended up a good night in a bar with my new Tunisian friends. Strange as I didn't think muslims dranks expensive Whisky.

Just imagine if there was no religion?

Lots of people died in several wars so that you could hear the sound of the call to prayer

That was worth it then, well done 🙄

My local "place of worship" allow there "followers" to park on a double yellow line outside any time the want. If i tried the same thing when going to buy some milk for my Mother i would get a ticket. Go figure!

your local place of worship have no say over who can park on double yellow lines, if you don't like it, complain to the council. the parents from my local primary school park all over the place, i don;t hate kids as a result*. I just leave polite notices on the cars from time to time and bring it up on local council surveys

    * i hate kids for other reasons

I'm with sofatester it's religious tossers thinking they can inflict their beliefs and ways on the whole population. Whether it be with squawking Muslim chanting of droning Christian bells. Get all the religious lemmings and ship 'em all off to the moon….then nuke it.

All I need now is for the Jehovah **** Witnesses to bang on the door now

I feel better for that, and I bet it will go down well with everyone. 😆

It is weird, UK nutters keep saying 'Ah, but if you went to <insert crazy far out dictatorship here>, you wouldn't be able to build a church / ring bells / whatever', as if the best model for how to run a friendly, open society, is to look at what crazy dictators reigning over corrupt political systems get up to.

If you look at predominantly muslim countries that aren't run by crazy nutters (or even most of the far out ones), they have churches, same as european countries have mosques.

Even crazy places mostly have churches, there were churches under Saddam Hussein in Iraq, there are churches in Libya, there are churches in Iran. People moaning about muslims having mosques in the UK are taking a position more extremist than Saddam Hussein or Muammar Al-Gaddafi. That is pretty far out.

I think Saudi Arabia may not allow churches, China I believe restricts churches. Those are the kinds of role models that the anti muslim types in the UK would like us to follow?

Least they understand no interested, not like the Mormons who have started knocking on our door.

"Hi, how are you this morning?"

    "Not interested"

"But you don't know why we're here."

    "Look I'm not interested."

"But you haven't heard what we have to say."

    "That's because I'm not interested."

"Sir, you don't where I'm from."

"Yes I do you wearing badges, now please get off my property."

    "Let me first tell you…"

"Get off my property, I've asked you to leave now this is your last warning before I use reasonable force."

    "Sir please…"

"Get the **** off my property."

That takes too long now so I just shut the door as soon as I see who it is.
