Just washed the reservoir from my backpack for the first time since I’d bought it. It’s only ever had water in it so it wasn’t full of crap. Only thing was is that I’ve just checked on CRC to see when I bought it, 22/09/2006!! And it’s had water in it constantly since…

Could I catch listeria or similar..?

If you ever get the hose cleaning thing and scoosh out the wildlife that’s in there, I strongly recommend you don’t look at the brush before you rinse it. It’s a bit offputting.

If you’ve just put water in there the bugs haven’t anything to feed off, so it should stay ok. Just drink it.

I never bother washing mine out; the hose isn’t something I’d want to inspect too closely but hey, it’s all good for the immune system… 🙂

Empty it over a sink and fill with London Pride afterwards. Drink it, repeat till you stop complaining.

You are absolutely minging, there will be countless backwash chunklets in that bladder. A slow painful death awaits you I’m sure 🙁

Go and give it a good clean.

Milton fluid or a specialist cleaner from a homebrew shop. I’d go for the latter, doesn’t leave as much of an aftertaste

Hot water and a couple of steradent tablets will sort it.

Rinse and freeze between rides. Baby bottle tablets every 3 months or so.

    are you dead..?
    no..?
were you feeling ill before you started this cleaning frenzy..?
    no..?

then stop whingeing.. It’s character building..
go and dip your kettle in the local lake and drink waterflea tea for a couple of days to strengthen your immune system..

You ever watch House MD? You know how every second episode, the hot one and the blonde one are having an argument about what to test for because there’s so many things it could be, and the evil one says “Test for blaaaaaaah” and the hot one says “Why aren’t we testing for fungus”, and the blonde one says “because if it’s fungal, we can’t cure him in time”?

That’s what happens if you’ve got a dirty camelbak.

stick a couple of steradent tablets in it, the fizzy bubbles clean all the scag off and if you get any aftertaste it’s only a bit “minty fresh” for a day or so

just freeze it after a rinse every now and again. you can put a knot in a lace and drag that through the pipe to clean it

only if you somehow breath aerosolised droplets containing legionella pnuemophilla and have a weakened immune system, just don’t turn the camelback into a rudimentary shower and you’ll be fine. 😆

Ooo a really sweaty hot back on a summers day, you’ve nearly drained that last bit of water out of it on your final climb one last gulp and it’s mostly moist air. Bingo!!! 😯

I’ve just replaced a bladder that split after 10 years. I only ever put water in it and never did more than rinse it out.
    I’m not dead yehjkuuuuuuuuuuuu
