    Kirkstile Inn if you don’t mind driving over to Loweswater (20 mins or so).

    The Heights up at Castlerigg camp site? Couple at Threlkeld, Swinside inn near Stair

    Coledale Inn at Braithwaite? Can’t be any more expensive than the Royal oak anyway.

    The Swinside beer garden has one of the best views – Causey Pike and down Newlands.
