The Mrs really struggles with anything citrusy, destroys her belly and sets off her IBS. It seems that every single energy drink I’ve ever tried is either orange/lime/pineapple/lemon, any recommendations for a decent energy drink that won’t give her stomach problems?

I found switching from energy drink to water + gels to be a far more effective and palatable solution and gels from Torq and Mule come in some pretty funky flavours 🙂

This. I use electrolyte tablets in my bottle and gels/banana’s for energy, works much better for me than energy drinks. If the tabs don’t sit well, just use water in your bottles.

My sister in law is a Sports Masseuse and had some training from a nutritionist, she advised a great make at home energy drink is to make up a dioralyte with twice as much water as recommended in a bottle and then top up with Mango juice.

I’ve tried it a few times and it seems to work really well (the mango juice is quite thick so it can also help with hunger whilst on a long ride.. used it dark side a few times for centuries with no ill effects at all 🙂

Skratch Labs? Nice raspberry flavour as an alternative to citrus.

Cheers all!! Bit of a weird one for me as I can just eat anything! She should be OK with Blackcurrant/Summer Fruits, we’ll have to try it and see how it goes. Didn’t realise Torq did Vanilla flavour, if Summer Fruits/Blackcurrant doesn’t work out that could be just the ticket!

Are you sure it’s not just a particular brand of energy drink, rather than the flavour?

I found SIS stuff wrecked my stomach.

Have since switched to Torq and/or OTE and have had no problems since.

The OTE drinks are like a weak squash flavour, so very easy to drink. Their gels are quite a light flavour too and not too thick & sticky.

But saying all that, as above Torq do some flavours that aren’t all aimed at the citrus-y side of things and taste pretty decent.

Why? It’s just a pretty standard medical condition suffered by moar people than I bet let on, avoid certain foods and it’s no problem, it’s hardly like I’ve just revenge porn’d her…

Unlike you, I bet she doesn’t like talking about toilet habits on the intarweb – it’s a weird woman thing
