Took a trip to Church Stretton last weekend.

On starting the car up Sunday afternoon. Power steering light came on.

No longer light and fluffy steering. More like heavy sludgey response.

Are there any knowledgable Singletrackers with any answers, or is this a write off like the googles suggest ?

Likely to be any one of:-

power steering pump drive belt failure <- easy to check
    power steering pump itself
power steering fluid level <- easy to check
power steering system leak somewhere – check pipework in/out of pump, resevoir etc…

arg, yeah, could be all sorts.

It’s a K12 at that age. Other half had a 53 plate one. Absolutely appalling cars, though nothing went wrong with PS on it… pretty much the only thing that didn’t go wrong.

Too much involvement from Renault me thinks!

Wife’s K12 had this. Needed a replacement steering column (inline motor on it) which the garage sourced 2nd hand. Needed a new ignition key module too to get it to work.

Same issue with my Renault Modus, it appears its a common issue on them both(think its a shared part).

The power steering unit has its own ECU which fails and needs to be refurbed to get working again.

On mine it was initially intermittent, start the car 2 beeps and steering Fault flashing up on the dash and no power assistance, kill the engine and restart and all was good until one time when it became terminal.

The good news is it can be repaired , the bad news is if its anything like my Modus its fiddly as F#*@ to get out.

    See these guys.
