I’ve got a Suunto Core All Black which I really like.

It’s been bombproof so far (I don’t take it off for biking, climbing etc).

Think it’s about £200.

Seiko Monster would be my call, plus change for a couple of straps/bracelets.

Something from Tissot would be where my money would go. Really nice watches for the money.

Christopher Ward have some timeless (err…for want of a better word) pieces.

I’ve been wearing a Luminox Field Alarm Chrono which can be found for under £300 if you search around the net. Can’t praise it enough, but I wouldn’t wear one of their Navy SEAL watches (although I do have my 50m badge).

Second Chris Ward some good deals on there at the moment.

What can you get for few hundred then? Most of the lower priced vintage Omegas look unfashionably small these days.

Second the Tissot, but for best value use Tesco vouchers around Christmas, £170 tesco vouchers = £680 goldsmiths vouchers = Tissot T-touch expert.

Are the Chris Ward watches better made than then website, it seems to error on clicking any of the images on the vintage C8 pilot!

I wouldn’t consider them to be in or out of fashion – I think that’s one of their great virtues, as they won’t date, unlike the blingy footballer type watches. A quick google turned up this site:

I like Fossil watches as cheep everyday fare. All sub £150 so you dont need to worry about scrathing it etc.

Seiko and Citizen do loads of nice dive watches, either with auto or quartz movements, that are well made and durable. Have to import (via creationwatches.com or similar) for most of the autos though, for some reason they offer hardly any to us in the UK.

Footballers? There was a time when you had to be an SAS trooper, Navy Diver or a Fighter Pilot to wear big **** off huge manly chronographs/diving watches.

Yeah, I’ve got Nixon’s ‘The Don’. I bought it 10 years ago and it was £100 at the time. Nice simple stainless steel design…not too chunky either so works well with suits.
