Wife and I have a 20 year anniversary coming up and fancied a couple of days away from the kids with some walking involved. What’s a good hotel that’s maybe away from large towns? No B&B’s, the wife wants somewhere ‘nice’.

It’s been a while since i stayed there, but The George in Hathersage used to be pretty good. I say ‘pretty good’ because some of the rooms might feel a little fatigued but it’s cosy and perfectly located and the restaurant is good.

    The peacock in rowsley..

Near Matlock/bakewell/chatsworth. Loads of walking from the door of the pub to be fair.

Food is amazeballs according to my parents.

    Another vote for the Peacock.

Bigger vote for Fischer’s at Baslow Hall.

Hassop Hall has good food, but room’s are a little tired and if you land a noisy wedding on a Saturday it’s remote feel is somewhat detracted from.

Cavendish Hotel in Baslow is nice despite its location on the road.

More posh pub is the Devonshire at Beeley.

I stayed at The Peacock a little while ago. Old building, nicely done up, comfy rooms but not huge (mine wasn’t – worth making sure what you’re getting – not like a new place where every room’s the same) good food, good ales, first class breakfast. Would tick a lot of anniversary boxes, I reckon.
