Three generations of the extended Maccruiski-clan are converging on Keswick at the weekend. Its for a 70th birthday do so looking for some nice places to eat out in or near the town that are special enough if you’re 70 and fun enough if you’re 3. Some veggie friendliness helps too.

We’ll probably eat out for most meals as interested in casual lunching as celebratory dining.

I used an Italian on the fringes of the town just past the Pencil museum very good service and food!

Thats good start – same side of town as the house we’re staying at too.

For the casual lunch option it’s gotta be fish & chips upstairs at the Old Keswickian on the market square.

Lakeland Pedlar cafe is also good, by the Bell Close carpark.

It’s half term madness in town at the moment so book early if you’re looking to eat in the evening. Casa Bella and the Lakes Bistro on Station St are both good. The Filling Station at Crosthwaite do great breakfasts and lunches, but it’s fairly small and very popular. The only decent chip shop in town is The Kingfisher.

    Nice eats

    what a horrible phrase!

Anyways, we’ve never found a really good place to eat in Keswick worthy of such an occasion. Far too much poor pub grub and iffy restaurants. We rearly eat out whilst there for a week now.

And why does everyone go on about the Keswickian- it’s an average chippy at best. Oh, now you’ve got me craving a pint of Old P and a bowl of goolash in the Dog n Gun!

    Cheers,

You’d think there would be a market for really well done, simple fayre in a good setting like Lucys (Lucy4s) in Ambleside. Perhaps that’s not what the hords of jordies that nip along the A66 are after!

    Cheers,

Drive over when latter and round to the Kirkstile Inn in Loweswater. Nice walk to the bottom of crummock water too. Afternoon away from the crowds in Cockermouth – decent food at the Trout Hotel and good Chinese at Bamboo or Indian at the Spice Club.
