Pull down the notification bar thingy at the top & un-select the data option.

My Sony Xperia T has the option in mobile networks of “data roaming” – off, national or international.
Mine’s set to national and if I go abroad it won’t connect. Dunno if that is a Sony feature or an Android one.

I still turn off the mobile data symbol as well just to make sure.

Settings > More > Mobile Networks.

    Turn off Data Roaming.

Settings > Data Usage > Mobile data toggle to Off. Then you should be safe enough.

    Clearly I’m too slow 🙂
