Just getting the bits together for a new back wheel. Just ordered my hope hub so looking for some advise on what rim to get. Currently got a DT Swiss 445D, but was wondering whether I should upgrade it? I think about £30 is a max I want to spend and I can see you can get the 445D for about £20.

The wheel is for a Spec Pitch pro. I do mainly XC in the South Downs, but like to hit the trials now and then. Took it to NZ so used to giving it some stick when required…. Would like to save a bit of weight, but still needs to be solid as it will take some decent hits. Built to last 😉

You need a spoke calculator to work out the spoke lengths.

If I’m getting the wheel built by a shop shall I just let me get the spokes? Sounds a bit of a mine field!

Let the shop supply the spokes, their not expensive and if you buy the wrong lengths by mistake you’ll have wasted any saving. I’d ask the shop to quote for the rim too as often if you buy the parts from them then they’ll do a deal on the building.

I was asking similar questions a few days ago, you’ll need your rim and hub and online spoke calculator to work out spoke length.
Those are the same spokes I ordered for similar duties, but I ordered from rose bikes for a substantial saving (£35 posted for 40 spokes and nips).
I bought the wheelpro book and will be building a truing stand this week, building the wheel doesn’t look too tough.

Any thoughts on rims?

This sounds good, a little bit heavier, but I have had to have the wheel rebuilt as I have broken spokes with heavy riding.
