Stuck at home on child minding duties, I’m making the most of the time to get some “upgrades” done. Fitting new brakes and wondering what the collective feel is the amount of noise should I expect from a new rotor/calliper set and what the tolerance is for alignment?

    I have followed the instructions.

    No response from the collective?

Guess I’m just gonna suck it up and ride today then.

Time to see how the Marin is looking.

Well you shouldn’t have any noise.

As long as you take the pads out and align the calliper so space between the disc and calliper is even on both sides then all should be good.

If the disc rubs spin the wheel and watch the disc closely for any bends then bend back the disc rotor and arms gently and progressively to get it true. Using an adjustable spanner to bend the disc works well.

Lined up properly and bedded in then no noise. A dot of copper grease on the back of the brake pad will help and bed in by putting muddy water over the discs and drag going downhill.

I always align with the pads in, much easier to get an even alignment.

If the pistons are not sticking out exactly the same distance then the calliper will not align properly
