I’d try and get most of the letters in the right doors and keep my van clean.

    Happy to help.

There is quite a good book called “The First 90 days” Amazon Link

A lot in there about building a network in the organisation, getting to learn how the company really works, who is important etc. Basic message is all of that is more important than technical competence in the role certainly initially. (what @matt says basically)

    Depends on the job innit.

It could be to familiarise yourself with the cleaning cupboard or it could be bring in the administrators.

If the other panel members are questioning, I’d suggest considering whether the question is relevant.

Yep I’d go with you made them uncomfortable. Sounds like a good question for any role. Tells you a lot about a person. I’d be looking for learn, evaluate, asses, understand, discuss type responses.

    What was the role?
For most roles i’d would expect people so suggest the following.
Integrate with existing team and ways of working.
Shadow a colleague working at the same level.
Connect with other relevant teams and start networking.

Basically, get to know people and appear to be interested until they leave you alone to get on with it.
