I got sent this link http://bbs.rallyesportescorts.co.uk/showthread.php?t=39992 from my wife today looks like the old skool is coming back to motor sport. Would be nice to see some on the roads over here there all hand build in turkey.

Very cool.

I wonder if BMH would considder making complete bodyshells over here?

Then again judgeing by the MG ones they do make the turkish ones will be more accurately built (pannel gapping and suspension mounts on BMH shells are notoriously bad) and cheeper (BMH shells are now about 2x what a finished car is worth! About £8k for a midget shell!)

Old man also had a mex! Used it as a rally car and a part time family car! Always got funny looks with the white squares still stuck on the doors 😀

I had a MK2 RS2000 in the late 80’s. I thought it was brilliant. I see one round here occasionally and I can’t believe how awful it looks. Now, a flat front, or a Mk1….

Second car I had was an Olympic blue Mk2 Mexico.

All usual mk2 steering and running gear mods plus a 2.1 Pinto with some sensible mods but running the DGAV. I recollect a pretty mild cam and some sensible head mods too. Not hugely powerful but very, very easy to drive.

Oh and 2 Cibie Oscars on up/down brackets.

Remember when parents would own and insure cars which the kids would run…..

I had a 4 door 1600 Sport (look them up) with a 1460 race built engine and an 1100cc log book, the only give away was the carbs and its speed. Loved that car and loved embarrassing the boy racers in their XR3s.
Mk IIs are ace.

There were some very fine examples of both mark 1 and mark 2 escorts at Race retro a couple of weekends ago, although like all rally cars its hard to judge true history, as most of the factory cars had different registrations over the years due to accidents etc.

There is no sound like that of a 2 litre BDG engined escort at full chat in a forest at night, a sound that i am never likely to forget.
And living in east anglia, where in the 70s and 80s the club rallying scene was massive, alotof the ex works cars made there way up here too, whixh as a small lad i loved to see.
