    What’s the rack mos?

    looks nice.

if you are going to use a beam rack I think the Carradice SQR bags are a better solution. With a big frame like that you could use a SQR Tour.

if you need to go bigger then you should be on a proper 4 point rack

+1 & there was me thinking that my 5 year old Kona kula was a bit posh for commuting

Not a commuter without proper mudguards. D’oh!

Stuff me. I’m a bit jumpy about using an 853 Inbred with a smattering of “old but nice” bits on it.
I crap myself when I leave it locked up!!!

Its a circa 1999 ‘titanium bike for life’. Or at least it was before XC forks started coming with more than 63mm of travel & i realised i get on better with frames that have a TT about an inch longer.
Won’t sell as it has some sentimantal value, plus i’d prob get next to nowt for it.
Rack is a topeak one i think.
Would be locked up in my workshop during day.

Mos, how are you getting on with the single chain ring up front? About to start building a Kaff and would like to avoid the front mech. Horrible brutal things!

gaffney – I have a Kaffenback with just a single ring up front (36T with 11-32 cassette). Works a treat, occasionally spin out on very fast descents, but other than that it’s a good compromise.

I use an ngear jump stop and BBG superlight bash for chain retention.

    nice mos, why not?!

gaffney – 1×9 here too. Surly 48T with a Paul Chainkeeper + 11-34 cassette. Reasonably steep hills round here, and it’s fine at the bottom end. 700x35c tyres.

That looks way, way to nice just to commute on 😉

Mos, what make are the front forks?

It’s not a commuter without full mudguards but otherwise it looks comfy and capable 🙂

Thanks for the links Ned and Woody, that’s made my mind up! Will post pics when I get the thing built.

Anyone got recommendations for good guards for Kaffs? Would like to keep the weight down if poss.

@gaffney – I just use SKS Chromoplastics on my Kaff.

it would look nicer if you fitted a traditional rack.
