new chain time 4 powerlinks is too many and some of the links are ready to go cant use the old one for a guide as bits of it are all over the north east and i think some on the chevin too how do i work it out its for my 456 running old school 3×9

Thread big ring to big cog, without going through the rear derailleur, pull tight and allow two extra links to where they meet.
