Just removed the 120mm stem on new road bike(and noticed a missing bolt!) and placed on a 90mm stem. The fit is now exactly like my old faithful and obeys the rough rules of. and feels fab. However I realise that age and extra stone is dictating I ignore the 100+ is correct for you sir. I think I might have to sulk at the back of the group in comfort with my stubby ladies stem.

I know what you mean about whats you “should” be running, versus what you end up running.

aT 6FT 4″, I worry that my 19″ Reign looks a bit small on me, but it rides ok and the smaller size makes it more manageable in the rough. Itll never been an XC machine, and a 21″ gate would be a bit bizzare on a DH track.

My Surly Disk trucker feels best with a 70mm stem. Bike fits are an indication or starting place, but the ratio of our bone sizes varies, so can never be a hard and fast rule. I start with a textbook bike fit, then tweek.
