Been sitting on the fence for another for ages & finally taken the plunge.

Plan is for some commuting, some on/off road stuff locally, the odd CX race that i’ll probably SS it for, and hopefully the 3 Peaks 2017.

    2016 Kona Private Jake (S/M 49.5cm).

I’ve had a 2009 Jake The Snake before, first ride out today on this and its a hoot. So fast, what ever you put in – it wants more, the discs are much needed after my previous versions cantis. Not sure if 420cm chainstays are short for a CX bike but it feels perky.

From stock i’ve changed the gearing to a M8000 11/40 cassette (40t chainring), long cage Rival 1 mech, saddle for an old Fizik Gobi i had laying around, and gone tubeless (came with rim tape and valves too short!).

Apologies for any weeds, the gardener is otherwise engaged at present.

    Nice bike!
    Are they Cross Boss tyres?
Are they any good in the mud?
    Thanks,
    Max

Yes, Cross Boss tyres, they remind me of my 35c Racing Ralph, great trail CX tyre that’ll cope with mud on a trail, but if your gonna be swamp wading it’s not a specific excavating mud fest traction grinder, look elsewhere for that, and skinnier.

I’ve the ‘n+1’ itch. Heart says get a 140mm FS, head says one of these would suit 90% of the regular riding I do. Wife says no to either…
