I'm going to be building a new front wheel for the hybrid based on an XT dynamo hub ... bit of a project for learning to build a wheel
I'm a little torn about the rims that I would need. Its going to be principally used on a full disc commuter hybrid which has 28 to 37 slick tyres.
When using a disc hub, do you need to use disc specific rims ? Any suggestions on good ones?
Would 29er, mtb rims be too wide?

I was gonna say Open Pros too, but 37mm is way beyond what Mavic recommend (though I run some Maxxis Raze 35 CX tyres on mine).
Run what you like, I have 2.3s on my open pros.
if it's unloaded road use you don't need anything stronger.
OPs are a bit flexy to build with.
719s are easier to build up, in my experience.
cxp should be good s well.the 29er rim mavic looks nice too.
if you get the OP then the anodized version is nice for a disc rim,as it looks like a disc rim(ie no machined brakesurface).
For a first build I'd get a nice stiff rim.its easier to build up.
Mavic A119 I had a few sets built up this year and they take a 38c tyre very well. Also stiff and cheap and strong.
Thanks chaps, i'll look into those. Need to get the hub first and foremost , as the flange dimensions I csant find online ( tis a new release hub )
Open pro, 700x37s working just fine
+1 for the A119s, got them on my ss cross commuter bike, seem to be taking the beating good, easy to work with.
I'd say Open Pros too, although I have A319s on my 29er. I think they are the same profile as their 29er rim (and cheaper) even though Macvic have different tyre recomendations for both. I'm sure Mavic just make up their tyre recomendations!

open pros are light. 29er rim will be heavier but stronger.

no, though if you are using disc brakes a disc rim looks neater (possibly)
How about a touring rim? I've got Sputnik rims on my Inbred and they've been faultless.
CXP 33's on mine. a) they were cheap at the time b) aero rims shed mud a touch better I like to think. Therefore a good choice for my disc CX.
