I took part in the Near Miss Project last autumn, and got an email about their first publication today – makes for interesting reading:

The findings seem to boil down to:
1) Near misses and “scary” incidents are a daily occurrence when riding a bike – the average number of incidents per cyclist was >2 per journey.
2) Faster cyclists have fewer near misses, perhaps because they are more experienced or “hardy”.
3) Women have 50% more near misses than men, although that seems to be down to the fact that they ride more slowly and, once cycling speed was taken out of the equation, the difference between men and women disappeared.
